Best Prediction Market Platforms for Canadians
Last updated: October 2, 2026. Reviewed quarterly.
What are the best prediction market platforms for Canadians? Today, only two qualify as legal, regulated options: Wealthsimple Predict and Interactive Brokers ForecastTrader. Both are CIRO-authorized dealers. In short, Wealthsimple suits beginners, while Interactive Brokers suits existing clients who want a broker-style account. Every other prediction market app is either unavailable, restricted, or still waiting for approval.
Below, we compare both options on fees, contracts and access. We also explain who is not on the list, and why.
Which Prediction Market Platforms Are Legal for Canadians?
Two dealers hold CIRO authorization: Interactive Brokers Canada and Wealthsimple. So the best prediction market platforms, in a legal sense, are these two. Regulators limit them to economic indicators, financial markets and climate contracts. Each contract needs a term of at least 30 days, and leverage is not allowed.
Sports and entertainment contracts are off the table too. On August 27, 2026, the CSA and CIRO said these contracts “should not be regulated within securities and derivatives legislation.” As a result, no Canadian prediction market app can offer them legally through this route.
Our guide on whether prediction markets are legal in Canada covers the full rulebook.
How Do the Best Prediction Market Platforms Compare?

| Best for | Beginners | Existing IBKR clients |
*IBKR Canada’s ForecastTrader page lists a $0.01 trading fee per contract. Its general pricing table is labelled “United States,” so confirm the Canadian schedule before you trade.
Wealthsimple Predict: Best for Beginners?
Anyone can download the app, including people who are not Wealthsimple clients. Wealthsimple’s help centre says new users get a separate non-registered account that holds both CAD and USD. Contracts trade between $0.01 and $0.99 USD and pay $1 if you are right.
The setup is simple. Moreover, you cannot lose more than you pay, because leverage is not available.
However, a few trade-offs matter:
- Mobile only. There is no web trading.
- USD contracts. CAD deposits convert first, and the FX fee is 1.5 percent on conversions under $10,000 CAD.
- View-only markets. The app shows some markets outside the three approved categories, but you cannot trade them.
Our Wealthsimple Predict review goes deeper on the Kalshi partnership and the evidence on trader outcomes.
Interactive Brokers ForecastTrader: Best for Existing IBKR Clients?
Interactive Brokers launched ForecastTrader in Canada on April 1, 2025. Contracts come from ForecastEx, a CFTC-regulated exchange that Interactive Brokers owns. In other words, the dealer and the exchange belong to the same group.
For active investors, the main draw is the listed fee. IBKR’s Canadian ForecastTrader page shows a $0.01 trading fee per contract. That is half of Wealthsimple’s flat $0.02, though you should still confirm the live schedule.
Meanwhile, the broker-style setup brings friction. Investment Executive reports that clients need a derivatives account with disclosures, and that IBKR limits trading to people aged 21 and over. So it suits people who already hold an IBKR account.
Which Platforms Should Canadians Skip or Wait For?
Several names come up in searches for the best prediction market platforms. However, none of these is a safe choice today.
Not authorized yet:
- Questrade was seeking CIRO approval as of April 2026, according to Investment Executive. We have seen no authorization since.
- Robinhood may follow after buying WonderFi, per industry sources cited in the same April report. No application has been announced.
- VerdX filed for dealer registration on October 1, 2026. An application, however, is not an authorization, and no timeline exists.
Not available to you:
- Kalshi is not open to Canadians directly. Wealthsimple is the only route to its contracts.
- Polymarket has no Canadian approval. Ontario bars its operators, and Alberta, British Columbia and Quebec are close-only. See whether Polymarket is legal in Canada.
How Should You Choose a Prediction Market App?
Start with regulation, then compare the rest. When you rank the best prediction market platforms yourself, use this checklist:
- Authorization. Is the dealer on CIRO’s authorized list?
- Contracts. Do the categories match what you want to trade?
- Total cost. Add trading fees to currency conversion costs.
- Access. Do you need a desktop platform, or is a phone enough?
- Risk. Can you afford to lose every dollar you put in?
On the last point, a 2026 study of 1.4 million Polymarket users found that about 71 percent finished in the red. Therefore, treat any platform as a place to risk only money you can lose.
Where Does PredictX Fit in All This?
No platform in this guide paid for placement, and PredictX is not ranked here. PredictX Markets Inc. is a Canadian company that builds prediction market technology for licensed operators, rather than a consumer platform. We do not run a market you can trade on, and nothing in this article is a product offer.
Two design principles shape what we build:
- Peer-to-peer matching. Participants trade against each other, and the platform earns a commission on matched trades rather than profiting from losses.
- Operator-held funds. Player balances stay with the licensed operator. The technology layer calculates and settles; it does not custody anyone’s money.
Finally, we publish this blog because platforms that are selling something answer most questions about prediction markets in Canada. Join The Briefing by PredictX for regulatory news without that bias.
